10 Ways To Display Family Photos
So you have had your photography session, you have downloaded the digitals and have even gotten your prints back, now what do you do?
I photograph families so that they have images to look back on, so that they can hang up their photo in their home and remember the fun we had. Photos invoke emotion, they bring the sense of HOME to a house and they bring people together.
But how do you display them? The days of frames cluttered on top of pianos, lined up against a bay window and strewn about are gone. Today, many homeowners want to take a more modern approach to their home art displays.
Color schemes, other art pieces, the flow of the house and the overall feel that you want all have to be considered when displaying your photos.
I am going to show you a few different ways that you can uniquely showcase your family photos.
1. Over-sized Prints
Get your favorite family photos or individual photos of the kids printed in a poster print. Showcase their personalities in the playroom or in the family space. This is a great way to bring lots of life and love to a space.
After we paint our living room, I plan on getting an over-sized print of our family to put over the couch.
2. Gallery Wall
My personal favorite is the gallery wall. I love how you can add unique touches and little details to showcase your style. By adding quotes and different frames it adds multiple dimensions to the space. You can tell your family story using a gallery wall. I am working on a new one in my home, searching for those unique pieces that will tell just the right part of our family story!
3. Shelf Displays
If you love taking photos of your family and are always wanting to switch up your displays, this design is for you. It allows you to easily display various sized images in frames along a shelf. When you want to switch out the photo, just pick and frame and change it out!
4. Staircase Walls
Some of the most under utilized walls in a home are the staircase walls. Many people do not know how to decorate it. You can simply showcase an array of family photos one by one going down the stairs. Or you can showcase a collage of photos on the wall, such as the photo below.
5. Square It Up
If you like photos that look clean, cut and symmetrical this may be the way to go for you. I like to mix it up because truthfully, it's easier that way. Trying to get photos lined up perfectly sometimes takes too much work!
6. Family Tree
The family tree display is becoming more popular. It is very easy to put up a tree decal and then place the frames where you would like. I love the idea perhaps when I have more wall space, I may think about doing something similar.
7. Hanging Photo Displays
These displays are also good for someone who loves to switch out photos frequently. The ease of un-clipping the photo and replacing it with a more updated version and a plus with this type of display.
8. Collage Prints
If you are wanting to put as many photos as possible into a space, try an over-sized collage print to fill a wall. You can even just do a collage print in an 8x10 frame to get more photos in one spot!
9. Corner Photo Displays
Sometimes the only available wall space you have is a corner. You can display your photos creatively using a corner as well. Use various other pieces of art like the image above, display the photos in the shape of a heart, or change up the frames and go with a variety of sizes.
10. Wallpaper
This way is not for everyone. The biggest way to make an impact and a statement in a room is to get custom wallpaper made with your favorite image. I am usually not a fan of over-sized images, especially something as big as this. There is a sweetness to this photo that has grown on me. The Better Wallpaper Company will turn any photo that is at least 4 megapixels digital or 300 dpi scanned into wallpaper in any size you'd like, with prices comparable to mid-range designer paper and a 7 year, no-fade warranty.
